Wests Tigers

Rugby League Australia - NRL Club Fan Site

The Wests Tigers set the world on fire in 2005, winning the NRL premiership while playing a very flamboyant brand of rugby league. Thanks to their superstar halves and fullback partnership and an enthusiastic pack of forwards, they became unstoppable by the end of that season. Following years have been a little bit disappointing due mainly to a series of injuries to vital players and the departure of key play makers to other clubs.

The Tigers are the product of merged foundation clubs Balmain and Western Suburbs. They are the most successful of any of the merged clubs due to their grand final success in 2005 and will be in a unique position in 2008 when they will celebrate 200 years of rugby league in Australia, combining the total for both Balmain and Wests. They would not have been happy with the way they ended the 2007 season, narrowly missing out on the top eight when they looked certain to make it with several rounds to go.

If the Wests Tigers can keep most of their roster fit and healthy in the coming years they will definitely be in contention for the crown. When they play exciting, attacking rugby league they are a real pleasure to watch and most supporters would be proud to call them their second favourite team. Their jersey combines the black and gold of Balmain with the black and white of wests in one of the more modern playing strips worn by any NRL club.
