Melbourne Storm

Rugby League Australia - NRL Club Fan Site

They're probably still celebrating in Melbourne following the Storm's powerful season in 2007. Giving the rest of the NRL sides a rugby league lesson, they led from the front almost all year, sitting at the top of the competition ladder from go to woe. They boast a massive forward pack and the most lethal backline in the premiership, featuring representative players right across the board. If they play their cards right, they could be the first team since Brisbane in the 90s to win back to back titles.

The newest NRL premiers are not new to victory by any stretch of the imagination. Since they were accepted and joined the competition they have proven themselves to be an extremely professional outfit and success has followed them at every turn. The restraints of the salary cap will see them lose a few players but I can't see that really affecting them for a few years yet. They have a ruthless coach and single-mindedly focussed football team hell-bent on winning.

The Storm play rugby league in its toughest form. They have been accused of developing and using a wrestling style of tackle to combat the way teams attack in the modern game but I think I can smell sour grapes. Melbourne only has one rugby league team so their home ground is always packed to the rafters on game day with fans dressed in purple, navy blue and white. It looks the city might actually be ready to embrace our code of football. With the success of the Storm, who can blame them?
