South Sydney Rabbitohs

Rugby League Australia - NRL Club Fan Site

The South Sydney Rabbitohs (or Souths to their friends) have had a bit of a rough trot over recent years. Also known as The Pride of the League, the club was booted out of the NRL competition but fought bravely to be reinstated. Since then the team has consistently held real estate near the bottom of the premiership ladder, until 2007 that is. Souths made the semi-finals for the first time in over twenty years and are looking to further improve, halting a culture of loss and disbelief.

Rabbitohs supporters proudly display their red and green colours to fans of other clubs in the NRL, and are looking forward to embracing the winning feeling for years to come. South Sydney has won more grand finals and premierships than any other club but haven't won since 1971. New owners, actor Russell Crowe and business man Peter Holmes a Court seem have instilled a very positive attitude at the club that has transposed on to the field itself.

I don't think anyone who supports rugby league could imagine life without the Rabbitohs. They have been a large and important part of Australia's sporting landscape and will be for a long time to come. If they continue to improve in 2008 and beyond, they should prove to be a true force to be reckoned with. Hopefully we will get to see the South Sydney team running a lap of honour sometime soon, or at the very least, maintain their reputation as a premiership contender.
