Parramatta Eels

Rugby League Australia - NRL Club Fan Site

The Parramatta Eels will always be remembered for their dream run in the 1980s. With a star-studded team, they were the last club to win three grand finals in a row under the watchful eye of super-coach Jack Gibson. During that time, players from the club dominated representative rugby league teams for City, Country, NSW and Australia. They were renowned for their world-class backline, especially the halves combination of Brett Kenny and Peter Sterling, as well as goal kicking legend Mick Cronin and try scoring wizard Steve Ella.

Parramatta performed well over the course of the 2007 premiership's preliminary rounds but bowed out in the second week of the semi finals. Their players took some time to form good combinations but by the end of the year they were capable of beating any team in the competition and unlucky not to progress further than they did. At certain stages through the year they struggled to score tries. If they can address this short-coming they should be an even stronger force in 2008.

Parramatta players always seem very proud to wear the blue and gold in the world's toughest rugby league competition. The NRL would not be the same without the Eels. They have a very parochial supporter base and usually attract large home crowds. They have no trouble filling their stadium towards the end of any successful season. The future is definitely looking bright and full of exciting tries and massive hits. This is one rugby league club with more than its fair share of characters, that's for sure.
