St. George Illawarra Dragons

Rugby League Australia - NRL Club Fan Site

The St. George-Illawarra Dragons are the product of the merging of two great rugby league teams. St. George is famous for wearing the red v on a white jersey. They merged with the Illawarra Steelers after the Super League debacle before the turn of the millennium. The Dragons are the second most successful team in the competition in terms of premierships won. These statistics were helped dramatically with their famous winning streak of eleven grand final triumphs in succession from the fifties to the sixties.

St. George-Illawarra players have scored some of the most flamboyant tries I have seen of late. The team has performed below its best in recent seasons but the roster it has at its disposal is definitely formidable on paper. They boast one of rugby leagues most potent attacking weapons in their backline and an ensemble cast capable of beating any other team on their day. The forward pack has plenty of muscle and can hold its own with the best in the NRL. The future is looking bright for the red and white Dragons.

The Dragons will be hoping to secure a grand final berth in the not to distant future in an attempt to wipe the memory of their two lost opportunities in the 1990s. St. George was not a foundation club but possesses a long proud history just the same. They have given the game a plethora of stars and legends and I imagine they will continue to do so starting next year. Rugby League is the greatest game of all in my opinion and this mighty club has played its part in getting the game where it is today.
