Canterbury Bulldogs

Rugby League Australia - NRL Club Fan Site

The Bulldogs have been part of the rugby league landscape in Australia since the 1930s. They are renowned for fielding relentlessly rugged forward packs, intending to strike fear into the hearts of their opposing teams. They have also been known as "the entertainers" for their frequently flamboyant attacking style. The NRL team wears blue and white jerseys and at the business end of a successful season the suburbs surrounding Canterbury and Bankstown are literally adorned with the colours.

The Bulldogs have become synonymous with ultra accurate goal kicking over the last decade, having recruited a couple of the games best sharp shooters in that time. The Canterbury and Bankstown areas have long and proud rugby league histories and many local players have gone on to represent at state and national level. Strong and sometimes impenetrable defence has been vital to the clubs successes in recent memory. This was not so evident in 2007 but this club doesn't like to stay out of contention for long.

I will never forget the 1980 grand final for as long as I live. I used to support the Roosters back then and the Bulldogs broke my heart. I bet they would like to bottle the formula they had for success in the eighties and feed it to their current roster and then sit back and wait for them to emulate the achievements of those great rugby league teams of yesteryear. Unfortunately they will have to work hard and recruit well like every other team but then again, that's what it's all about, isn't it?
